...back Creativity does not obey the same rules as it is an alchemic process and is thus unable to be pre-established. For me, becoming a choreographer did not signify a discovery of my creative vein, because being a dancer already signifies creativity, it’s just that the means of expressing one’s sensations changes. It’s like one moment being a son and the next, finding yourself in the role of a father.It’s a frightening prospect but, in becoming a father, it is ultimately thanks to your having been a son first. Sometimes I think back to my first ballet as a choreographer, to how I delved deep into my heartfelt experiences as a dancer: the vivacity, a great desire to invent and the lessons learned from my teachers. For these reasons alone I refuse to touch the piece at all because after all, the beauty of first works is their banality and ingenuity which renders them both true and pure. Decisive encounters followed ... The one with William Forsythe enabled me to understand that all work which had gone before could be reviewed. Forsythe, like every great master, made me question myself along the way. There are also the encounters of daily life. I feel that my creativity today also comes from the people I work with and who in turn allow me to put my ideas into practise. The dancers of Aterballetto are a fundamental element for me and with whom I have constructed a direct relationship, both sincere and personal, and which is strengthened by the “chemicals” which feed our daily contact next... |
